受訪嘉賓：Margaret Anderson,Regional Manager（North Asia）,The University of Western Australia

　　1、What are the key strengths of your institution?

　　Business, engineering, life and agricultural sciences (we are ranked 44th on Shanghai Jiao Tong table for life and agricultural sciences)

　　商科、工科、生命和農(nóng)業(yè)科學(xué)（在上海交通大學(xué)的生命和農(nóng)業(yè)科學(xué)高校專業(yè)排名里我校位列第44位）

　　2、Is university ranking important or not? Does your institution care about the position of your institution in the world university ranking? What advice you would like to give to students about university ranking?

　　Rankings are important as students need to ensure they attend a university with a good reputation and they graduate with a degree that is recognized around the world.

　　All rankings systems are different and we care about some more than others. We believe the Shanghai Jiao Tong is a better system because it measure research output.

　　Students can use a ranking to find good institutions but they should look beyond to make sure the university is the best one for them, based on what they want from their university experience.

　　學(xué)校排名是很重要的，因為有了排名學(xué)生才能確保自己就讀的學(xué)校有一個好的聲譽(yù)，在畢業(yè)時拿到的學(xué)位也是被全世界所認(rèn)可的。

　　然而不同的排名方式會使學(xué)校有不同的排位，因此我們也不能僅局限于學(xué)校的排名。我們覺得上海交通大學(xué)的排名系統(tǒng)非常科學(xué)，因為它根據(jù)大學(xué)的研究產(chǎn)出量來進(jìn)行排名。

　　學(xué)生可以通過學(xué)校的排名去判斷一所大學(xué)的優(yōu)劣，但也不能完全局限到排名，挑選學(xué)校時還應(yīng)考慮你真正想從大學(xué)生活里收獲什么，只有這樣才能找到完全適合的學(xué)校。

　　3、How many students are there in your institution at the moment? What about the percentage of international students? How many Chinese students? Does your institution set a quota for the number of Chinese student your institution recruit every year?

　　UWA has 21,000 students, both on and offshore. Our international students make up 21% of our total student body. We have only 354 Chinese students and have no quota on how many we can take. We welcome all suitably qualified students..

　　西澳大學(xué)目前共有21000名學(xué)生，包括所有的國內(nèi)生和國際生。國際生的比例為21%。目前我們僅有354名中國學(xué)生，至于招收中國學(xué)生的數(shù)量我們不做任何限制，我們歡迎所有適合我們學(xué)校的學(xué)生前來就讀。

　　4、What attributes you expect Chinese students to have when you recruit students, apart from meeting the academic entry requirement set by your institution?

　　We strongly recommend good English skills, as this will mean students function more effectively more quickly once at university. We like our students to be willing to embrace their new environment and want to have an international experience.

　　我們覺得英語能力非常重要，因為這意味著學(xué)生在大學(xué)里學(xué)習(xí)會有更高的效率同時也能取得更快的進(jìn)步。另外我們更傾向于喜歡國際教學(xué)環(huán)境的學(xué)生，能更快融入學(xué)生集體。

　　5、What kind of majors/subjects would Chinese students like to choose previously?

　　Most of our current Chinese students study in business and engineering, though we also have 50 Chinese students undertaking research in life and physical sciences.

　　目前我們在校的中國學(xué)生大多就讀的是商科和工科，但我們也有50名中國學(xué)生正從事于生命和物理科學(xué)的研究。

　　6、What majors/subjects/courses which your institution are offering are really good but haven’t been aware of by Chinese students? Can you introduce these majors/subjects/courses?

　　We have a new program in 2010 called the Master of International Relations. We are also keen to let students know about our Master of Urban Design. Students with a wide background can entry both these programs. Also our masters in environmental management, conservation biology, marine and coastal management, natural resource management.

　　我們學(xué)校在2010年會開設(shè)一個新的名為“國際關(guān)系”的碩士研究生專業(yè)。另外我們的碩士專業(yè)城市規(guī)劃設(shè)計也很不錯。有豐富專業(yè)知識背景的學(xué)生可以申請這兩個專業(yè)。我們的碩士專業(yè)里如環(huán)境管理，生態(tài)保護(hù)，海洋和海岸管理，自然資源管理等都是不錯的選擇。

　　7、Is there any change on the quota for international students and the amount of scholarships your institution can offer?

　　We have no quotas so there are no changes. We are still offered a similar number of scholarships to previous years.

　　我們學(xué)校不限制國際生獲獎學(xué)金的人數(shù)所以自然也談不上變化。今年我們?nèi)蕴峁┡c往年數(shù)量類似的獎學(xué)金數(shù)量。

　　8、What about the employment of graduates in your institution? What kind of help your institution provide to students to help them with find a job? Any extra measures have been taken to help students in financial crisis?

　　UWA graduates are the most successful in gaining employment in comparison to the other WA universities and in comparison to most other Australian universities. We run graduate recruitment programs on campus and many of our lecturers are also industry professionals with good networks and contacts.

　　西澳大學(xué)的就業(yè)率與其它澳大利亞西部的大學(xué)相比是最高的，甚至在整個澳大利亞也算是很不錯的。我們經(jīng)常會有與就業(yè)相關(guān)的活動，如舉行就業(yè)講座等等，而聘請的演講人員也都是行業(yè)自身人員。

　　9、There have been some issue about safety of international students in Australia? Any advice you would like to give to Chinese students?

　　Perth has a reputation of being a safe city but we still recommend being aware of your surroundings. On campus our students can access a security escort service to their cars or residential accommodation and the University is introducing better lighting and emergency contact areas for students to report anything suspicious.

　　Perth是一個以安全而著稱的城市，但我們同樣還是要提醒學(xué)生注意周邊環(huán)境。我們校園設(shè)有安全防衛(wèi)系統(tǒng)，保護(hù)的對象包括學(xué)生的車和住所；學(xué)校的燈光設(shè)施非常先進(jìn)，同時還設(shè)有專門的緊急呼救區(qū)域，學(xué)生發(fā)生任何可疑的事情可以立即報告。

　　10、Will your institution take any actions to echo the ‘’2010 Initiative’’ launched by the Australian Government in 6 countries?

　　We already have a presence in most of these countries and will support the Government’s initiatives where we can.

　　這6個國家當(dāng)中大多數(shù)我們已經(jīng)涉足，所以我們當(dāng)然會盡力支持政府的決策。
